The “ South Indian Cultural Association” popularly known as SICA, was formed in the year 1953- 54 by a few persons belonging to all communities of Southern part of India, to make available a common platform to know each other of those who came to Indore in connection with business, employment etc. This Association, after a few years of its formation started functioning with broader outlook, like working for National Integration through Music, Dance, Drama and other cultural activities. At that period, when T.V. etc., were not in existence, our efforts received very best response from the citizens of Indore and yielded much more than desired results in promoting not only art, music and cultural, but also in bringing people together.
Gradually, over a period of time, SICA had augmented funds and had acquired a small piece of land at 14, Sanghi Colony in 1968 and built its own building to serve as a meeting place. By this time, the population of South Indians at Indore increased and many other Association of Southern States like Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala etc., had also came into existence. However, SICA continues functioning independently, yet maintaining its parenthood throughout. Its membership is open for all even today without any differentiation of cast and creed. Presently SICA has about 275 family members.
With a view to serve the Society in the field of education, by providing with quality education at affordable cost, we started a school, in the year 1973,in a very small scale, in our own premises at Sanghi Colony, consisting of KG-I, KG-II and class 1st with just 3 teachers and 75 students only . Year after year, classes were added up. To cope up with growing demand, a piece of land measuring 2 acres was acquired from Indore Development Authority (IDA) and gradually a spacious building was constructed at Scheme No. 54. This school has steadily grown to a large scale, with ever- increased demand for admission, due to its reputation. To meet out this demand, an additional land of about 2.5 acres was acquired from IDA at Scheme No. 78 phase II in the year 2003 and construction of mega building with all modern amenities, was completed in 2004, A full-fledged school is functioning since then,. Total student strength of both the schools at Scheme No. 54 and Scheme No. 78 is over 4700.
While the two schools having classes from 1st to 12th are managed by the SICA Educational Trust, created by SICA in 1984 for effective, efficient and independent management of the Senior Secondary School, other two schools, having Nursery and Pre- Primary classes, situated at its own building at Sanghi Colony and at Scheme No.78 with a student Strength of 876 are managed by the South Indian Cultural Association.
